When using the WH-1000XM6 for calls, my voice is too quiet or the other person cannot hear me
The WH-1000XM6 headphones are designed to capture the user's speech from multiple microphones using AI beamforming and noise reduction algorithms, delivering it to the other person on the call. To ensure clear call audio for the other person, make sure you are wearing the headphones properly.
Hint: If you are wearing the headphones correctly (as shown below) and the issue is still not resolved, refer to this article: While on a phone call, I cannot hear the other person's voice or they cannot hear mine.
How to wear the WH-1000XM6 headphones
- Check the left (L) and right (R) marks on the headphones to ensure you wear them on the correct sides of your ears.
- On the left unit, you can see the

-
Adjust the slider to a length where the headband touches the top of your head.
-
Adjust the orientation of the left (L) and right (R) units so that the earpads fit snugly all around your ears.
Hints:
- Make sure the headband goes over the top of your head.
- During a call, make sure you don't cover the microphone on the back of the headphones.
- If the back of the unit is bulging when worn, it means that both sides of the headphones are correctly positioned.
Headphone positions that can affect call quality
In the following headphone positions, your voice may not be captured correctly during a call, and the other person may not be able to hear you:
- If the headphones are worn on the wrong sides (i.e., the left unit is on the right ear)
- If the headband is worn at an extreme angle (e.g., too far forward or back)
- If the microphone on the back of the headphones is blocked by a wall, cushion, or other objects
