Innovation meets sustainability

This video shows how Sony's Original Blended Material is made. And, all scenes of this video was shot on Xperia smartphone camera.

"Original Blended Material" is an environmentally conscious paper material.

It is sourced from localities in the Asia-Pacific region, which boasts the highest concentration of Sony’s manufacturing facilities worldwide. It incorporates elements such as bamboo, sugarcane fibers, and recycled paper. The video shows the sugarcane field and farmers.

In the selection of materials, consideration was given to the environment at the producer's location.

Hiroki Kitazawa, Product planner, says "The purpose behind creating the "Original Blended Material" is to instill environmental consciousness in our customers by effectively "communicating" with them. We conceived a storytelling concept that explores "where," "what," "how," and "why" the material came into existence"."Bamboo grows quickly in a short cycle and can be harvested. It is collected in Guizhou, China."

The video shows the bamboo mountain.

Hiroki Kitazawa says "Interestingly, China is home to pandas. "Original Blended Material" do not use the kind of bamboo which pandas eat."

The leftover fibers from sugarcane are typically incinerated as fuel for electricity generation and discarded. We use these as materials for the "Original Blend Material."

By blending long fibers from materials such as bamboo and sugarcane into market-collected recycled paper at optimal ratios, continuous reuse of recycled paper has become possible. This contributes to reducing the consumption of wood.

The "Original Blended Material" has evolved beyond just product packaging; it has transformed and expanded into various forms, including employee business cards and exhibition fixtures. By maximizing its versatility, we plan to continue its broad and diverse deployment in the future."

Now the various shapes of carton made of "Original Blended Material" are shown on the screen.

Hiroki Kitazawa says "When people are communicated and learn from it, their behavior always changes. To that end, I wanted to create materials to convey the message or for communication.
