Closed Caption/Subtitle

    Subtitles are typically transcriptions of the audio portion of content displayed on the TV screen. They include sound effects and scenic narration, but whether non-speech elements are available depends on the content.


    Display subtitles on the TV screen

    The subtitle feature is enabled by pressing the SUBTITLE (CC) button on the TV remote control.
    Content for which subtitles are available are as follows:

    • TV broadcasts: Subtitles may not be available for some TV broadcasts.
    • Apps such as Google Play Movies & TV: Some apps, such as Netflix, enable subtitles by using their own setting menu instead of pressing the SUBTITLE (CC) button on the TV remote control. In addition, some apps can change the text size and color.
      • Visit the support site of the apps for detailed information, including how to enable features.
      • The specifications of Google Play Movies & TV are subject to change without notice.
         

    Display Closed Captions on the TV screen

    The Closed Caption feature is enabled by pressing the CC (Subtitle) button on the TV remote control.
    Content for which Closed Captions are available are as follows:

    • TV broadcasts: Closed Captions may not be available for some TV broadcasts.
    • Apps such as Google Play Movies & TV: Some apps, such as Netflix, enable Closed Captions by using their own setting menu instead of pressing the CC (Subtitle) button on the TV remote control. In addition, some apps can change the text size and color.
      • Visit the support site of the apps for detailed information, including how to enable features.
      • The specifications of Google Play Movies & TV are subject to change without notice.
         

    You can customize the Closed Captions feature for TV broadcasts by following the procedure below:

    1. Press the Home button on your TV remote control.
    2. Select  Settings at the upper right corner of the Home screen and press the Enter button.
      NOTE: For Android 7.0, select Settings at the lower corner of the Home screen and press the Enter button.
    3. Press the Down arrow button to select Accessibility, and press the Enter button.
    4. Select Captions and press the Enter button.
    5. Select Cable/Antenna and press the Enter button.
    6. Press the Down arrow button to select Digital CC options, and press the Enter button.
    7. Press the Down arrow button to select Custom, and press the Enter button.
    8. Press the Down arrow button to select the item you want to change from Character size, Character style, Character color, Character opacity, Edge type, Edge color, Background color, Background opacity, Window color, and Window opacity. Character opacity, Edge color, Background opacity, and Window opacity can be selected after Character color, Edge type, Background color, and Window color are selected respectively.

     

    Enabling Closed Captions from the Settings menu for streaming and other content

    1. Press the Home button on your TV remote control.
    2. Select  Settings at the upper right corner of the Home screen and press the Enter button.
      NOTE: For Android 7.0, select Settings at the lower corner of the Home screen and press the Enter button.
    3. Press the Down arrow button to select Accessibility, and press the Enter button.
    4. Select Captions and press the Enter button.
    5. Press the Down arrow button to select Streaming & other content, and press the Enter button.
    6. Select Display and press the Enter button.
       

    NOTE: You can also change the language, text size, and color of the text in this Captions menu.

    IMPORTANT: Although some apps might be able to change text size using this menu, Google Play Movies & TV is the only app that fully supports the feature. This information is subject to change without notice.
