Sony is offering a firmware update for HDR-CX900/E.

Improvements:

  1. Support Direct Copy for XAVC S format
  2. Auto focus performance improvement
    - Focusing accuracy for main subject
    - Focus tracking performance on a person
  3. Add 1/30 shutter speed (HDR-CX900E). Add 1/50 shutter speed (HDR-CX900)
  4. Change zoom speed during movie recording to same speed during standby

How to check the firmware version 

  1. Select Menu → Setup → General Settings →Version.
  2. If the Version menu is not displayed, the software is version 1.00 and firmware upgrade is required.



    If there is Version menu in General Settings, your camcorder has already been updated to software version 2.00 and upgrade is not required.

Supported OS

  • Mac OS X v.10.6 – 10.10

If you are using Mac OS X Ver.10.10, you need to run Driver Loader, a preparatory application, before updating the system software.

If you are using Mac OS X Ver.10.9 or earlier, you do not need to run Driver Loader.

  • CPU: Intel processor (Core Solo and Core Duo processors are no longer supported.)
  • USB cable supplied with the camera
    Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.
  • Please close all other application software before updating the system software.
  • Prevent your computer from sleeping beforehand.

    Note: The upgrade can be performed only when the remaining battery level is (three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery or the AC adaptor.

Details

Important Notes:

  • When performing the system software update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FV50 or the AC adaptor.
  • Do not remove the battery or AC adaptor during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
  • Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
  • Prevent your computer from sleeping beforehand, because it takes approximately 15 minutes to perform the system software update. For details on how to do this, consult the manufacturer.

Start Firmware Updater

  1. Do not connect the camera yet at this point. Double-click Update_CAMHDRCX900V2.dmg to start up Firmware Updater.

  2. Double-click the Update_CAMHDRCX900V2 icon which appears on the Desktop.

  3. Double-click the FirmwareUpdater icon.

  4. To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes.
    Type the password for the administrative account.



  5. Firmware Updater starts up.

     

  6. Check the USB connection mode
    1. Turn on the camera.
    2. According to the Firmware Updater instructions, select Menu → Setup → Connection → USB Connect Setting on the camera, and check if Mass Storage is selected (Figure 3).
    If a mode other than Mass Storage is selected, select Mass Storage.

  7. Remove the memory card from the camera, and then connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
    Note: When the camera is connected to the computer, the LCD screen of the camera turns off. Please proceed to the next step.

    If the LCD screen of the camera dose not turn off, please try the following methods.
    - Disconnect the USB cable from the camera, then reconnect the USB cable.
    - If there are another USB terminal with the computer, reconnect the USB cable to another USB terminal.

  8. Click Next on Firmware Updater.

    Note: From this step onwards, never turn off the camera until the firmware upgrade is completed.

  9. After confirming the screens above, click Next. The current version and the version after the upgrade appear on the lower left part of the screen.

    Upgrade is required, click Next.


    Note: If Current version is Ver. 2.00, the upgrade is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, reinsert the battery pack or connect AC adaptor, and then turn on the camera.

    Upgrade is not required



  10. Screen below appears.

  11. Press OK on the panel.
    Note: The screen turns off when the center of the control wheel is pressed. Please proceed to the next step.


  12. Click Next on Firmware Updater.

  13. After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the screen below appears.



  14. Click Run to start the upgrade. The progress bar appears while upgrading (approximately 15 minutes).

    Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while upgrading.

  15. When the update is completed, the camera will automatically restart. It may take a few minutes to restart the camera. Make sure the camera is turned on and wait until the LCD screen appears again. Click Finish when the LCD screen appears.

  16. Disconnect the USB cable.

Check the firmware version

  1. Follow the instruction to confirm the firmware version is Ver. 2.00.
  2. Select Menu → Setup → General Settings →Version.
    The system software version is displayed.
